Why we ask this
Professional Tax is a state-level tax on income from a profession, trade, or employment, levied by roughly fifteen states (Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Telangana and a handful of others). PTEC (Enrolment Certificate) is the business's own liability, a flat annual amount on the entity. PTRC (Registration Certificate) applies the moment employees are on payroll: PT is deducted from salaries and remitted monthly. Most businesses with employees need both.
