About the business
The basics we need to start your GST application.
i.
Business identity
What is the business legal name?
Use the name printed on the PAN card — not the brand/trade name.
ii.
Entity type
What kind of entity is it?
iii.
PAN
Business PAN (10 characters)
For proprietorships, this is the proprietor's personal PAN.
iv.
Principal place of business
Primary business address
GST is state-specific. Each state is a separate GSTIN.
v.
Additional places
Any other places of business in this state?
Branches, warehouses, godowns — in the same state only. Other states need separate registrations.
vi.
Business activity
What does the business do?
vii.
Bank account
Is the business bank account ready?
The GSTN portal accepts an undertaking for new businesses without a bank account — we'll handle that on your behalf.
Why we ask this
GST registration is mandatory once annual turnover crosses ₹40 lakh for goods (₹20 lakh in special-category states) or ₹20 lakh for services, and immediately — turnover threshold or not — the moment you sell across state borders or on an e-commerce platform. The GSTIN is the 15-character state-wise identifier you'll quote on every invoice. The REG-01 application asks for entity type, PAN, principal place of business, and a brief activity description, which is why those are the fields on this step.
